1. A New Selfie Style featuring Hands-Free Selfie

The new DMC-GF7 is definitely a perfect camera for selfie. The 3.0-inch 1040K-dot static type touch control monitor boasts not only high visibility under any lighting conditions but also 180-degreetiltable structure. Once the monitor is flipped up, the camera activates Self Shot Mode automatically. In Self Shot Mode, Face Shutter and Buddy Shutter are integrated for a trigger of shutter release. They work when the face is once covered with a waving hand or when two faces come closer in a frame. In conventional selfie pictures, users have to stretch their arms to hold the camera, which makes the selfie pictures all-too-common. However, the hands-free selfie allows users to use their hands as they like, resulting in free, expressive posing. Moreover, the beauty functions help users to shoot portrait more beautifully. In this mode. Soft Skin makes skin look smoother, Defocusing gives natural defocus around face and Slimming looks the subject sharpened up.

2. Ultimate Picture Quality Goes Beyond Expectation

The DMC-GF7 incorporates 16.00-megapixel, large Digital Live MOS Sensor complying with Micro Four Thirds system standard that achieves both higher resolution and higher sensitivity image recording with less noise. The photodiode in each pixel is enlarged thanks to the adoption of cutting-edge Semiconductor Fine Technology to improve color saturation and the redesigned on-chip lens enhances light condensation to achieve high sensitivity. Not only these, noise generation is minimized in both pixel circuit and digital signal readout circuit to provide excellent S/N ratio.

The image processor Venus Engine features its advanced noise reduction systems. It features high level of noise is control thanks to the expanded controllable area of noise. This makes it possible to remove large block of noise which was formally hard to detect and helps produce clear, smooth image especially for the nighttime scenery. In addition, the Multi-process NR (Noise Reduction) works in two separate steps allowing even finer control over noise level. The texture of noise itself, regardless of the noise size, is improved with this deliberate control, which is resulting in the reproduction of smooth human skin even in high sensitivity recording.

Furthermore, the optimum design of newly adopted Detail Reproduction Filter Process enhances the limit resolution and the contrast of middle to high range. Plus, the advanced Intelligent D-range Control offers wider dynamic range while maintaining the smooth gradation thanks to the high-precision signal processing. Suppressing both blocked shadows and blown highlights, every part of an image – from dark to bright – is faithfully reproduced. The combination of the Digital Live MOS Sensor and the Venus Engine achieves fine detail reproduction, making it possible to capture clear image even in low lit situations and allows max. ISO25600 while achieving minimum ISO 100 (Extended).

3. The Top Level of AF Performance among Conventional DSLRs and Mirrorless Cameras

All cameras of LUMIX G, and the new DMC-GF7 adopt Contrast AF for its focus system. Compared with the Phase difference system AF, the Contrast AF boasts higher accuracy especially in shooting with bright lens with small F value. The DMC-GF7 features high-speed Light Speed AF, making it possible to capture even the fast-moving subject clearly. Not only the accuracy but also the speed of AF in DMC-GF7 surpasses the high-end DSLRs with Phase difference. The camera and the lens exchange the digital signal at max. 240 fps to minimize the time to focus. The DMC-GF7 realizes the high speed burst shooting at approx.5.8 fps (AFS) / approx.5 fps (AFC, 1-area AF) in 16.00-megapixel and max. 40 fps using an electronic shutter. Also, AF Tracking enables consecutive shooting to capture moving subject in sharp focus at approx.4 fps*.

The Low Light AF, which is popular in LUMIX G DSLM cameras, is incorporated making it possible to set focus on the subject more precisely in such as moonlight even without AF assist lamp. It further enhances the performance to work in -4EV lower lit situations, which is as dark as starry sky with no other light source.

In addition to the conventional Face Recognition AF, the DMC-GF7 newly incorporates Face / Eye Detection AF which automatically sets focus right on the eye of human face. With the Pinpoint AF, users can magnify the target area to set focus by 5x by just touching it on the monitor. Magnification using dial is also available and this can be selectable from 3x to 10x enlargement by 0.1x step. Picture-in-picture display is available and the magnification ratio of in-frame picture is selectable from 3x to 6x seamlessly, which enables users to set precise focus on the target point while seeing the whole image composition. The One-shot AF enables using AF even in MF mode by just touching the icon on the screen to set rough focus on the subject and you can go back to MF just to adjust precise focus.

* In 1-area-focusing AF mode.

The DMC-GF7 newly comes with Rec.Setting Reset button on the back. All recording settings can be reset with the button and it is helpful for users who made wrong settings unconsciously.

Portrait, Child, Scenery modes, which are used often, have respective shortcuts on the dial. Most appropriate parameters for the scene are automatically applied by just setting the dial to the mode for beginners to capture those scenes most beautifully. Notably, burst shooting at high shutter speed is set in Childmode, not to miss the spur-of-the-moment.

5. Easy Wireless Connectivity via Wi-Fi® with Smartphones

The DMC-GF7 integrates Wi-Fi® connectivity (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) to offer more flexible shooting experience and instant image sharing with easy operation. Once connecting the camera and smartphone/tablet installing Panasonic's dedicated application software Panasonic Image App for iOS / Android, users can shooting / browsing / sharing images remotely.

Now it is quicker to share an image when browsing thanks to the new direct uploading capability.

Remote shooting of both photo and video* is available by using the smartphone/tablet for a remote shutter with a monitor which displayed live at smooth 30 fps. Not only releasing a shutter, zooming, focusing and settings of shutter speed, aperture, exposurecompensation are all controllable with a smartphone/tablet. The DMC-GF7 newly integrates Jump Snap. By holding the smartphone in hand or having it in the pocket, the smartphone detects the highest position when the user jumps and release the shutter of the camera which is located away from the user in advance. It lets users to shoot themselves jumping as if they are flying in the air.

The Instant Transfer function allows the camera to transfer the photo data to the designated electronic devices automatically whenever shutter is released. In playback mode, users can also touch the image displayed on the camera to transfer it directly to the smartphone/tablet or to the designated social media service to share right on the spot. In addition, it is possible to tag the location information to the image by utilizing the GPS (Global Positioning System) log of a smartphone / tablet.

* Fn1/Wi-Fitton works as a shutter button when the rear monitor flips up (Self-shot Mode).

** Some controls are not available in video recording.
